Heritance Kandalama

Sri Lanka

Leading Eco Hotel / Resort

An architectural masterpiece, Heritance Kandalama, the leading eco hotel in Sri Lanka leans against a thickly wooded rock outcrop at the foot of the northern slopes of Sri Lankas central hills, almost camouflaged as a natural extension of the mountain and forest of Dambulla.

Perched just above the Kandalama tank, overlooking UNESCO world heritage site Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Heritance Kandalama sits on 198 acres of forest land conserved by the property.

While the hotel itself supports ecological diversity, allowing vegetation to wind its way over its walls, its also home to over 300 varieties of flora and fauna, inclusive of over 15 indigenous species.

The hotel, with an ethos of conservation at its heart, uses natural light and ventilation as much as possible; and runs an Eco Park within its premises with a plant nursery, elephant dung recycled paper unit and waste segregation area.

The hotel is actively engaged in reducing its carbon footprint and has taken several steps to reduce water, waste and energy consumption.

Awareness creation among guests and staff alike on eco practices is also a key in the hotel.

Among its firsts, the hotel was the first LEED certified hotel in the region and Green Globe 21 certified in Asia.
